About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our high-achieving legal team in one of Europe's most valuable fintechs. You will be advising on privacy and data protection matters, partnering with commercial and product teams, and supporting the development and launch of innovative payment products and services.
Responsibilities
- Advise on privacy and data protection matters across different geographies, with support from external counsel where necessary.
- Partner with commercial, product, engineering, and information security teams to provide real-time legal advice and find creative solutions to achieve business objectives.
- Support the development, launch, management, and expansion of innovative payment products and services, embedding a privacy by design approach.
- Advise key business functions on new regulatory developments and the privacy implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
- Support relationships with data privacy regulators and provide input into the development and implementation of Checkout's privacy governance framework.
- Mentor junior legal team members and foster a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Act as deputy for the Global Data Protection Officer as required.
Qualifications
- UK or EU-qualified lawyer with 8+ years of relevant post-qualification experience or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a dedicated privacy and data protection role.
- Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced culture.
- A practical focus on solving legal challenges.
- Excellent judgment and project leadership skills.
