Electrical Design Engineer

Trant Engineering Ltd is a leading provider of EPC engineering and construction services, delivering high-quality projects across the UK and overseas. We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our in-house design team in Southampton, UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage project-specific design deliverables, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  2. Carry out design in accordance with M&E Design QA Procedures, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
  3. Interpret and understand client requirements from client documents, including drawings, specifications, and correspondence.
  4. Communicate effectively with clients, external design resources, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications.
  5. Conduct site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, and feasibility studies to inform design decisions.
  6. Assist with tender pricing, production of procurement specifications, and detailed design construction drawings.
  7. Project manage third-party designs, providing design assistance to installation and commissioning teams.
  8. Review vendor control system Functional Design Specifications for compliance with company requirements.
  9. Manage internal and external project-specific design costs in liaison with the Project Manager.
  10. Undertake and check design calculations, including modelling of the complete power system (AMTECH).
  11. Prepare drawings for CAD production, adhering to TEL QA procedures.
  12. Assist in the development of process control philosophies with the Process Engineer and suppliers.
  13. Produce URS documentation, electrical scope, and works enquiry submission documents.
  14. Estimate material and labour costs, undertaking design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals.
  15. Responsible for preparing detailed electrical specifications and producing single-line and block cable diagrams.
  16. Record and document all design changes through to completion and issue of 'As Built' documents.
Requirements:
  1. An appropriate electrical qualification or by experience.
  2. Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution is an advantage but not essential.
