Job Description

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled Trade Compliance Manager to join its team in Edinburgh. As a key member of the Trade Compliance Function, you will play a critical role in supporting the management of all aspects of UK Export Control and Compliance, as well as other relevant trade control laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to individuals and managers at all levels within the Edinburgh business to ensure compliance with UK and foreign import/export laws, including the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Work with the Edinburgh business to understand business aspirations and ensure that trade compliance aspects are considered at an early stage, export licensing issues are dealt with in a timely manner, and that project teams create and maintain plans which address Trade Compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure Control List Classification (CLC)/Export Control Ratings and Customs Classifications are correct to support compliance with UK Export and customs regulations.
  • Lead the site Trade Compliance team to ensure full compliance with UK export licences and other UK authorisations, as well as all relevant Foreign Export licence conditions.
  • Assist in drafting General Correspondence requests/Retransfer requests under different jurisdictions, as applicable, and maintain relevant audit trails.
  • Initiate internal Trade Compliance assessments, preparation of reports, and draft Voluntary Disclosures for approval by the Head of Trade Compliance - Electronics.
  • Prepare for and support internal/external audits relating to Export Control and Trade Compliance matters.
Requirements
  • Experienced export control/trade compliance practitioner with detailed knowledge of UK Export Licensing, including Trade Controls.
  • Good working knowledge of foreign import/export regulations, particularly EU Member States and the US ITAR and US EAR, including US ITAR Agreements and General Correspondence/Retransfer requests under US and other export control regulations.
  • Good working knowledge of UK/EU Customs regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal/influencing skills to support decision-making based on credible knowledge of International Trade.
  • Good all-round computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Meeting management skills (organize, chair, record, action).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of, and general familiarity with, SAP ERP (ECC6 or S4/HANA, SAPGTS).
  • Good understanding of trade compliance considerations for international support programmes within the aerospace, defence, and security sector.
Working Environment

This is a hybrid role using display screen equipment, working full-time hours during the normal working week (Monday – Friday). The role involves working to tight deadlines on a regular basis. The successful candidate will be part of a team providing Import/Export Control and Trade Compliance support to the Electronics business operations throughout the UK.

The role will be based at Leonardo's Edinburgh facility, and the successful candidate will be expected to travel to other Leonardo sites in the UK, depending on business needs, and may also be expected to stay overnight as part of this travel. International travel for short periods may also be required.
