About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate in Quantitative Marine Ecology to join our interdisciplinary project, Stronger Shores. This project aims to investigate nature-based solutions to protect the UK coastline and associated communities from flooding, coastal erosion, and climate change.

The successful candidate will be responsible for exploring the cost-benefit of spatial ecosystem services associated with three foundational species: kelp, seagrass, and native oysters. They will develop spatial estimates of abundance and apply programming skills in R or Python to assess the value of current distributions of study taxa in providing ecosystem services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop spatial estimates of abundance of foundational species and associated ecosystem services
  • Work collaboratively with researchers and project partners to integrate data and findings from across Stronger Shores
  • Disseminate research results through appropriate media, including authoring or co-authoring papers for publication in high-quality academic journals
  • Contribute to communicating outputs of analyses and socialising modelling approaches with stakeholders

Requirements

  • Experience in species distribution modelling
  • Experience in the use of decision support tools, e.g., spatial prioritisation analyses such as Zonation and/or Bayesian Networks
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of problem-solving capacity
