At Moody's, we are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our Inland Flood Modeling team. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the scientific and technological development of our large-scale flood hazard model components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply novel scientific techniques to advance flood hazard models, including machine learning and data assimilation methods.
  • Calibrate and validate model components using observed data and benchmarking techniques.
  • Evaluate final model output, including flood footprints and flood losses, using statistical methods and GIS tools.
  • Communicate research findings to clients and stakeholders across teams.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Hydrology, Hydraulics, Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong programming skills in scientific and analytical scripting languages, including Fortran, R, Python, and C++.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively communicate insights to internal and external stakeholders.

Advantageous Skills:

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques applied to large environmental datasets.
  • Experience working with large-scale climate model datasets.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing environments and Linux operating systems.
