Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting a varied portfolio of engineering tasks and projects in the Windscale Laboratory. This will involve working with a multidiscipline team to deliver new systems and components, and resolving engineering problems and issues encountered during normal operations, maintenance, and breakdown phases.

The role will also involve engineering development and testing work at NNL's Workington Facility. The successful candidate will be able to work in a hybrid environment, splitting their time between office and home working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production of design and engineering deliverables to agreed standards, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Staying up-to-date with engineering legislative requirements and changes in directives, standards, and regulations.
  • Providing engineering discipline guidance to others.
  • Complying with all legislative, regulatory, and company policy standards and processes applicable to the role.
Requirements
  • Degree/HND/HNC in an Engineering discipline or closely related subject, with good design and design office experience.
  • Proven knowledge and experience following an accredited design/engineering process to deliver assured designs/systems that meet statutory site and national safety standards.
  • Proven knowledge and experience using AutoCAD and 3D CAD software, together with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in system and component fault finding in operational active and non-active nuclear facilities.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working in the nuclear sector, with a working knowledge of Sellafield Site Procedures, Engineering Standards, and Site License Conditions.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of using Sellafield Ltd Engineering Standards in the design process and the Sellafield site drawing registry, CIMAGE.
  • Knowledge and experience in producing mechanical and structural calculations to relevant industry design standards.
  • Knowledge and experience in the substantiation of mechanical equipment designated as safety equipment in a safety case to Sellafield Engineering Standards.
