The Cellular Pathology Department at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Science Support Worker to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, supporting the work of Biomedical Scientists and contributing to the efficient and effective running of the department.
Main Responsibilities- Undertake data entry tasks, inputting patient and specimen information into pathology-specific computer systems
- Competently deal with all sample types received into the department, including those that may carry transmissible infection risks and follow appropriate protocols for handling such specimens
- Participate in the storing, retrieving, and disposal of specimens and specimen records in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures
- Undertake house-keeping duties as necessary, including cleaning, basic maintenance of equipment, and support the maintenance of stock levels
- Support the dispatch of samples to other laboratories that may have complex requirements
- On a rotational basis, the post holder will carry out the role of MDT coordinator, where patient reports and specimens need to be collated in line with tight timescales

Person Specification- Essential qualifications: 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or NVQ level 2) including Maths, English, and Science
- Desirable qualifications: NVQ clinical laboratory support or IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part I, IT qualification
- Essential experience: Evidence of electronic data input, evidence of following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Desirable experience: Previous laboratory experience (preferably pathology-related), health and safety responsibilities
- Essential skills: Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills, evidence of attention to detail, ability to work with human tissue/fluids, ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality work
