Role Description: Trustee (Finance) – initial term 3 years

Background: A background in business, accounting, banking, or governance is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the organisation complies with governing documents, charity law, company law, and relevant legislation.
  2. Pursue the organisation's objects as defined in its governing document.
  3. Ensure the organisation uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.
  4. Contribute to the board's role in giving strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, and evaluating performance.
  5. Safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
  6. Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  7. Ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
  8. Protect and manage the property of the charity and ensure proper investment of funds.
  9. Appoint the chief executive officer and monitor their performance.
  10. Support and advise on the business model of the charity.
  11. Scrutiny of charity finances at Trustee meetings and Annual accounts and presentation to the AGM.
  12. Advising the board on financial decisions and budgets, including payroll and service charges.
  13. Examining financial reports to support the board's understanding of the charity's financial position and setting strategic direction on financial matters.

Qualities of a Trustee:

Essential:

  • Business, finance, banking, or governance experience, with demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • A team player who will contribute to the work of the Board.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within the charitable, voluntary, and public sector.

Time Commitment:

In addition to Board meetings, you may be required to attend occasional training events. Board meetings are one half-termly session, 2-3 hours in the evening.
