Senior Production Engineer - Robotics & Automation

Our client in Milton Keynes is seeking a Senior Production Engineer to explore, research, and implement automation and robotics solutions to enhance production efficiency. This hands-on role offers significant opportunities for personal growth and future leadership opportunities.

  1. Identify and evaluate automation opportunities to improve safety, reduce costs, simplify skill requirements, increase output, and meet quality standards.
  2. Collaborate with Production Engineering to develop tender documents and review suitable automation suppliers.
  3. Manage specification alignment, commercial agreements, and quotations for approved projects.
  4. Design jigs, fixtures, and ensure effective robot programming.
  5. Oversee commissioning, spares, TPM requirements, and training for a successful handover to production.
  6. Maintain data structures for the automation process and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  7. Support Production Engineering with automation initiatives across production areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with specifying, setting up, and commissioning new robotic equipment and facilities.
  2. Oversee weld facilities, adjusting welds and tooling as needed.
  3. Manage and control all MIG, MAG, GMAW and TIG welding processes.
  4. Direct and document all MIG/MAG and TIG welding processes.
  5. Help develop and integrate automated/robotic welding processes.
  6. Assess welding processes for quality, productivity, and function.
  7. Train others in welding practices.
  8. Support internal and external audits of welding processes.
  9. Perform basic mechanical and electrical repairs.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Robotics / Engineering or 5 years relevant experience.
  2. Robotic programming and maintenance capability.
  3. Demonstrated working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma in the manufacturing field preferable.
  4. Excellent analytical skills combined with good negotiation and conflict management skills with proficiency in computers.
  5. Ability to read engineering drawings.

Working Hours & Salary:

The basic working hours for this role are 40 per week, 08:00 - 16:30, Monday - Friday. Salary up to £50,000 per annum depending on experience.
