Job Title: People Advisor

The People Advisor plays a pivotal role in the People and Culture team at Octavia, driving the delivery of a professional, proactive, and efficient people service. This includes employee relations, employment legislation, HRIS, recruitment, retention, change management, and advice on terms and conditions of employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice and support to managers on employee relations issues and processes, including discipline, sickness absence, diversity, capability, grievance, and performance management.
  • Collate and analyze information, producing reports to inform decision-making, performance monitoring, and ER case management.
  • Generate reports to support data requests from the business, including balance scorecard, dashboards, and EDI steering group.
  • Manage recruitment and selection campaigns, ensuring the most suitable candidates are recruited and retained.
  • Ensure compliance with onboarding requirements and support payroll and people department audits.
  • Partner with the L&D Manager to design and deliver learning and development activities, including staff and management development training.
  • Contribute to the People strategy, supporting Octavia's corporate and business objectives, and partnering with managers on People actions.
  • Support key people projects, including recruitment, resourcing, onboarding, reward, performance management, organizational development, and employee engagement.
  • Undertake research and develop new policies and procedures in response to employment legislation changes.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practice, legislative changes, and new developments to continuously develop and improve knowledge and skills.
  • Proactively contribute to the development and growth mindset of the People & Culture team, creating an environment for the team and organization to thrive.
Requirements:
  • HR experience in a generalist advisory capacity.
  • CIPD Part-qualified.
  • Experience in assisting on change projects, restructures, and TUPE (desirable).
  • Experience advising managers and Heads of Service.
Knowledge:
  • Clear, accurate, and up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Sound knowledge of HR best practice.
  • Knowledge of staff engagement and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant employment processes and practices.
Skills:
  • Strong verbal, written, and numerical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a busy workload.
  • Numerical and analytical skills.
  • IT literate in the use of HR databases, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and senior managers.
