Job Description

Job Title: Lecturer Practitioner - Paediatric Intensive Care

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lecturer Practitioner to join our team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality education and training to our nursing staff, with a focus on paediatric intensive care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver educational programs for nursing staff, including lectures, workshops, and online modules
  • Assess and evaluate the learning needs of nursing staff and develop tailored training programs
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure that education and training are aligned with clinical needs
  • Contribute to the development of educational policies and procedures
  • Provide mentorship and support to nursing staff to enhance their clinical and educational skills

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (RSCN/RN) with a recognized intensive care course
  • Relevant higher degree (Masters/Post Grad Diploma)
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Recent clinical practice in paediatric critical care
  • Experience at Band 6 within a PICU
  • Experience as a mentor/preceptor
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrable experience in development of staff including formal teaching
  • Demonstrable experience of personal professional development
  • Involvement in change management
  • Resource management
  • Management of poor performance
  • Networking at all levels
  • Current children's and paediatric intensive care nursing knowledge
  • Awareness of adult learning and process of staff development
  • Awareness of evidence-based practice and current research
  • Awareness of clinical risk, quality, and audit initiatives
  • Understanding of Health and Safety
  • Understanding of Child Protection procedures
  • Change management

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of the recruitment and selection process
  • Publishing papers and presenting at conferences
  • Knowledge of clinical supervision

Skills and Abilities:

  • Current excellent clinical and teaching skills
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously within a team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with service and education partners
  • Supervisory and preceptorship skills
  • Competent IT skills, including PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to access and use evidence/research to inform practice
  • Problem-solving skills
