About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team at the Workington Mill. As a key member of our Engineering Management Team, you will be responsible for leading and developing the mechanical engineering function to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our mill.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health and Safety: Ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement effective preventative maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
  • Asset Management: Oversee the management of mechanical assets, including maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to production colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the engineering management team to achieve business objectives.
  • Lean and Problem-Solving: Promote and facilitate lean and problem-solving activities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Communication: Develop strong communication links with site shift managers to aid planning and execution of tasks.
  • Leadership: Lead and develop the craft resource, senior craft, and apprentices to improve competence and upskilling.
  • Supply Chain Management: Manage the supply of craft resource mill-wide for efficient execution of maintenance.
  • Planned Maintenance: Operate as a key member of the area planned maintenance shut process and execution.
  • Engineering Duty Rota: Be a member of the engineering duty rota to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • Compliance: Ensure all employees are aware of and adhere to applicable laws, agreements, and rules.
  • Budget Management: Set and achieve area budget.
  • KPI Management: Monitor and achieve KPIs, including uptime, engineering cost/tonne, and work completion.
  • Resource Management: Manage and coordinate internal and external resources and expertise.
  • Maintenance and Asset Management: Ensure effective maintenance and asset management practices.
  • Objectives: Set and carry out objectives to drive business success.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
Requirements
  • Education: HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, or vast experience in a management position (Engineering degree preferred).
  • Apprenticeship: Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge: Excellent knowledge and competence in maintenance engineering.
  • Failure Analysis: Understanding of failure analysis and maintenance strategy.
  • Plant Processes: Good knowledge of plant processes and equipment.
  • Computer Literacy: Be computer literate with working knowledge of 'Windows Office' suite.
  • Self-Motivation: Be self-motivated and able to work independently.
