Heavy Machinery Operator

As a Plant Operator with the New Zealand Defence Force, you will play a crucial role in constructing, repairing, and maintaining roads, tracks, and other infrastructure using heavy machinery.
You will work in challenging conditions both at home and overseas, supporting the Army and other government agencies in various operations.
Key responsibilities include operating a range of heavy construction vehicles, such as bulldozers, cranes, and excavators, as well as military bridging systems and combat tractors.
When not deployed, you will focus on practising vehicle operation skills and conducting combat field engineering training.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate heavy machinery to construct, repair, and maintain roads, tracks, and other infrastructure.
- Work in challenging conditions at home and overseas, supporting the Army and other government agencies.
- Operate a range of heavy construction vehicles, including bulldozers, cranes, and excavators.
- Conduct combat field engineering training and practising vehicle operation skills.
Training and Development
As a Plant Operator, you will undergo comprehensive training, including basic military training and a 14-week Plant Operators Course.
This will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.

Entry Requirements
- You must be at least 17 years of age.
- Meet the citizenship and security requirements to gain CV security clearance for this trade.
- Hold a Class 1 restricted drivers' licence.
- Have 3 years' secondary school education.
