About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Person to join our team at Westgate Healthcare.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the general upkeep, safety, and repair of our care home, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair mechanical and non-mechanical equipment, including electrical and plumbing systems
  • Conduct regular checks on fire and lighting equipment, as well as other facilities
  • Stay up-to-date with new developments and required maintenance checks for nursing homes
  • Perform daily checks on maintenance books and take immediate action as necessary
  • Know the location of fuse boxes, main stopcocks, and other essential systems
  • Check fire alarm systems weekly and emergency lighting and water temperatures monthly
  • Ensure fire appliances are checked and serviced regularly
  • Carry out quarterly fire drills and assist with updating fire evacuation procedures
  • Check all electric lights daily and replace bulbs as necessary
  • Ensure the Nurse Call System is in good working order at all times
  • Check all pressure relieving mattresses monthly and beds and bed controls on a monthly basis
  • Redecorate rooms and corridors as requested by the Home Manager or Head of Facilities
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a similar maintenance or handyperson role
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs
  • Skilled in painting and decorating
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe environment
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility to respond to emergencies outside of regular hours if needed
