Requirements

Substantial modern rolling stock engineering knowledge, especially 25 kV fleets, modern signalling systems (ideally CBTC, ETCS), diagnostics, and prognostics are essential. Strong working knowledge of routine maintenance railway depot operations, stabling sites, train preparation, remote repair, modification programs, and maintenance practices are also required.

A deep understanding of safety regimes within the railway industry and national rail operators' safety management systems is necessary.
