Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Development Practitioner to join our team at East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust. As a key member of our strategic mental health team, you will play a crucial role in developing and driving forward our ambulance response to mental health workstreams.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain specialist knowledge of mental health and associated legislation, including the Mental Health Act (1983) and its application within prehospital urgent and emergency care.
  • Provide advice and guidance to a broad range of clinicians on complex mental health situations that arise in the prehospital environment.
  • Work with the mental health team to support the implementation of the ambulance response to mental health as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) and drive forward ongoing related workstreams.
  • Evidence of developed clinical skills in relation to mental health and a track record of continuing professional development.
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings to represent the strategic mental health team and provide updates on ongoing workstreams.

About Us

The post holder will report to the EOC/999 Mental Health Lead and be part of the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team across the Organisation.

Person Specification

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist with mental health experience and expertise.
  • Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent knowledge through experience and portfolio.
  • Portfolio of CPD evidence showing commitment to personal development.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Teaching Qualification / Assessing Qualification
  • Knowledge of Ambulance Service
  • Robust evidence of experience and understanding of the wider health care system management

  • Specialist knowledge of relevant legislation, MHA, MCA, and their use in emergency and urgent care/prehospital environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current health and social care agendas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Proven analytical and judgement skills, problem solving skills and ability to make and act upon decisions.
