Job Title: Substation Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Design Engineer to join our team at BOSS Professional Services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and specifying transmission voltage substations for our onshore wind projects in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop comprehensive design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
  2. Prepare technical specifications and associated electrical designs for new substation projects.
  3. Produce feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications.
  4. Review designs from suppliers and clients to ensure technical compliance.
  5. Ensure design deliverables meet contract requirements and client specifications.
  6. Serve as the CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV and EHV projects.
  7. Identify and manage Health and Safety risks and hazards within the project team.
  8. Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project construction.
  9. Align project design works with program schedules, quality standards, and margin objectives.
  10. Write and maintain technical specifications and guidance notes for substation design.
  11. Provide technical guidance and advice on new plant installations and support Operations with equipment capability assessments or fault investigations.
Qualification Requirements:
  1. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical design, specification, and application of transmission voltage substations or onshore wind projects in the UK.
  3. Proficiency in creating single line diagrams using 2D AutoCAD.
  4. Ability to technically assess and solve issues, with a thorough understanding of the technical requirements for the design, planning, operation, and development of the transmission network.
  5. In-depth knowledge of Grid, British and European Standards, with experience in writing technical specifications, guidance notes, and work instructions for plant, equipment, or substation design.
  6. Experience in the design, manufacturing, testing, installation, or maintenance of transmission voltage plant and equipment is advantageous.
