About the Role

Main Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain risk-based fire safety policies and loss control strategies to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and Railway Group Standards.
  2. Develop fire safety training policies and oversee technical input into fire safety and awareness training courses.
  3. Lead the integration of fire safety requirements into engineering standards.
  4. Develop and implement competency frameworks for fire safety management.
  5. Establish methods and systems to measure the effectiveness of fire safety management across the business.
  6. Set strategic direction for fire safety within the technical engineering area, in collaboration with internal and external experts.
  7. Lead and support project teams on a range of internal and external projects.
  8. Engage with stakeholders on the development and implementation of fire policies and standards.
  9. Review fire safety aspects of the Railway and Other Guided Transport Systems Regulations (ROGS).
  10. Develop policy and strategy for fire investigation.
  11. Provide professional leadership for engineers aligned to the engineering discipline.
Requirements

Essential
  1. Chartered Fire Engineer (CEng) registration or ability to achieve chartered status within 12 months.
  2. Degree in Fire Engineering or equivalent experience.
  3. Professional membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE).
  4. Significant experience in applying performance-based design to complex facilities.
Desirable
  1. Understanding of emerging technologies and their implications for fire strategies.
  2. Commercial awareness and ability to consider alternative solutions.
  3. Awareness of other engineering disciplines and their influence on fire engineering solutions.
  4. Awareness of codes and standards related to business continuity and risk management.
