Job Title: Principal Technical Operator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Technical Operator to join our multi-skilled Operations team. As a Principal Technical Operator, you will be responsible for working as a Studio director on our flagship regional news programme, South East Today, and will also work on other bulletins and shifts.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Working as a Principal Technical Operator, you will be responsible for directing live television in a news environment and leading a multi-skilled team under tight time pressures.
  • You will need to be a good communicator, self-motivated and able to work with others or alone.
  • You will also be able to respond to problems in a fast and effective way, whether it's a technical solution or a reorganisation of priorities due to unexpected changes in the news agenda.
  • Some experience of live news transmission systems will be an advantage, although you will be trained on our system as part of the placement.
  • As a Principal Technical Operator, you may be expected to take on extra responsibilities such as planning technical facilities to deliver the producer's vision.
  • You will also be actively involved in the training and development of others in the team as required and have an understanding of BBC Health & Safety policies.
