This is an exciting opportunity to join the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust's Health and Safety Department as a competent and up-to-date health and safety advisor. The successful candidate will have a broad range of H&S legislative knowledge and be a flexible, motivated team player with excellent communication and organisational skills.

Main duties

The post holder will provide expert health and safety advice and guidance to staff and managers on all aspects of health and safety, including legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. They will demonstrate a well-informed knowledge base of the legislative and regulatory frameworks within the NHS.

Under direction of the Operational Health and Safety Manager, the post-holder will support the Trust Head of Health & Safety Services in implementing health and safety objectives and assist in monitoring of the safety management systems (HSG65).

Person specification
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, CTLLS, DTLLS – or equivalent workplace experience
  • To maintain own professional development; attending a regular trainer update and complete a development portfolio
  • NEBOSH National General certificate or willing to undertake
  • Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
  • A good understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations and best practice
  • Experience of creating and delivering training packages
  • Experience of investigating accidents and incidents
  • Experience and involvement in risk assessment process
  • Experience of reacting to and managing change within the workplace
  • Experience of problem solving and the ability to make quick decisions in a pressurised environment
  • Knowledge of the audit process and experience of involvement in an audit
  • Work Experience in a health care setting and knowledge of NHS procedures and structures
  • Experience and confidence with a range of patient handling equipment and techniques
