Job Title: Research Vessel Captain
">Estimated Salary:$150,000 - $220,000 per year
">The University of Delaware is looking for an experienced Research Vessel Captain to command and navigate our research ship. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation, navigation, and maintenance of the vessel.
">Your duties will include leading a crew of nine members and directing up to 16 scientific personnel and marine technicians. You will make independent decisions on navigation and operation, considering safety and mission accomplishment.
">To be successful in this role, you will need STCW certification, a Bachelor's degree, and ten years of experience as a deck officer or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional certifications and training are required for the vessel's size and class.
">Key Responsibilities:

- Command and management of the research ship, including operation, navigation, safety, maintenance, and outfitting.">
- Lead responsibility for the ship, crew, embarked science party, ship, and mission accomplishment.">
- Direct crew and technician(s), assign work priorities, monitor logistics, hotel services, and vessel cleanliness.">
- Ensure the vessel meets all appropriate UNOLS, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Oil Spill Response, and U. Coast Guard standards and regulations.">
- Make operational decisions independently, considering safety and mission accomplishment.">
- Interact closely with the scientific party, planning, operations, logistics, safety, ship hotel services, etc.">
