Job Title: Research Vessel Captain

Estimated Salary:$150,000 - $220,000 per year

The University of Delaware is looking for an experienced Research Vessel Captain to command and navigate our research ship. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation, navigation, and maintenance of the vessel.

Your duties will include leading a crew of nine members and directing up to 16 scientific personnel and marine technicians. You will make independent decisions on navigation and operation, considering safety and mission accomplishment.

To be successful in this role, you will need STCW certification, a Bachelor's degree, and ten years of experience as a deck officer or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional certifications and training are required for the vessel's size and class.

Key Responsibilities:

• Command and management of the research ship, including operation, navigation, safety, maintenance, and outfitting.">
• Lead responsibility for the ship, crew, embarked science party, ship, and mission accomplishment.">
• Direct crew and technician(s), assign work priorities, monitor logistics, hotel services, and vessel cleanliness.">
• Ensure the vessel meets all appropriate UNOLS, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Oil Spill Response, and U. Coast Guard standards and regulations.">
• Make operational decisions independently, considering safety and mission accomplishment.">
• Interact closely with the scientific party, planning, operations, logistics, safety, ship hotel services, etc.">
