Associate, Data Science Analyst – Global Oil Markets

Castleton Commodities International, LLC is committed to building a best-in-class Data Science platform, as being at the forefront of data management and analytics is core to our investment strategy. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our growing team in the London office with expertise in time series forecasting and machine learning model building experience. This role is vital for advancing our data science capabilities and delivering high-value projects that directly affect decision-making.

In addition, you will serve as a domain expert responsible for delivering insights to the commercial business. Specifically, you'll be accountable for utilizing time series data to analyze oil and shipping market fundamentals to understand the drivers of supply and demand, ultimately predicting future price trends to help the commercial business manage risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Data Science and Commercial teams to drive business outcomes.
  • Develop and implement time series forecasting models to predict future trends in the global oil markets.
  • Design and deliver end-to-end data science solutions for users from data ingestion through to production using advanced analytics and machine learning models.
  • Apply mathematical and statistical fundamentals to improve existing applications and inspire new ones.
  • Create new data ingestion pipelines and source new data sets to enhance our data science capabilities.
  • Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders through comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists to foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Work closely with our Commercial investing teams globally to support their data needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience in Data Science, with a focus on Shipping, Oil & Petroleum asset classes, including crude oil and refined products.
  • Proven experience with time series forecasting and machine learning techniques, specifically in the shipping & global oil markets.
  • Strong programming skills – Python & SQL.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
