Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled VAT Accountant to join our team at Focus Resourcing. As a VAT Accountant, you will play a critical role in supporting our client's finance team by providing expert advice on VAT and tax matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • VAT Compliance: Ensure accurate production and submission of monthly and annual VAT Returns to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), reconciled to the General Ledger, within HMRC timeframe rules.
  • VAT Advice: Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with VAT advice, liaising with the school's appointed VAT Consultants as necessary.
  • VAT Knowledge: Ensure VAT/Tax knowledge within the school's finance team is current and up to date.
  • Financial Activities: Participate in the full range of financial activities, including budgeting, management accounts, statutory accounts, purchase and sales ledger work, and financial regulation, with a thorough understanding of VAT accounting and reporting rules and regulations.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise with accountancy team members to facilitate timely and accurate processing of VAT element of all financial transactions.
  • Support to Colleagues: Assist other colleagues in the school with obtaining VAT advice for projects.
  • Wider School Community:
    • Participate in school events, Open Days, outings, and activities, which may take place at weekends or in the evening.
    • Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school, as reasonably required by the Director of Finance and Operations.

Requirements:

  • Tax and VAT Specialism: Proven expertise in tax and VAT, with a strong understanding of VAT accounting and reporting rules and regulations.
  • Excellent IT Literacy: Proficiency in accounting software and other relevant IT systems.
  • Strong Finance Skills: Proven finance skills with an emphasis on tax and VAT, including budgeting, management accounts, and financial regulation.
  • Accounting Software Knowledge: Familiarity with accounting software and other relevant IT systems.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Qualified/Part Qualified Accounting Qualification: Possession of a qualified or part-qualified accounting qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Experience in Education: Experience of working in an educational environment.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to establish good working relationships and effective teamwork, with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Time Management and Prioritization: Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Role Model: Ability to be an excellent role model for staff and pupils.
  • Innovative Approaches: Willingness to adopt innovative approaches and a positive outlook to change.
  • Initiative and Drive: Ability to generate ideas and drive initiatives.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work outside normal hours if necessary.
