Mechanical Design Engineer Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Permanent Futures. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative mechanical solutions for our products.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and develop plastic injection moulded components that meet our quality and performance standards.
  2. Design and fabricate interlocking aluminium and steel enclosures that are durable and efficient.
  3. Conduct mechanical fit and compatibility checks on electronic assemblies to ensure seamless integration.
  4. Produce wiring diagrams and assembly instructions to support production and quality control.
  5. Collaborate with production to design and develop relevant jigs and fixtures, and manage their manufacture.
  6. Ensure all products are designed for ease of manufacture and assembly, reducing production costs and lead times.
  7. Evaluate components from datasheet information and approve them through appropriate testing.
  8. Build and test initial samples, qualifying the design with correct documentation.
  9. Provide technical support to production for day-to-day design, performance, and quality issues.
Mechanical Design Engineer Skills and Abilities

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  1. A degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  2. Proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling and design packages, with Solidworks experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of metal materials, including castings, sheet metal, extrusions, and castings.
  4. Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments with design for manufacture and test.
