Bacteriology Research Scientist

Job Summary
The Animal and Plant Health Agency is seeking a highly skilled individual to join our Bacteriology department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality scientific support to our customers, including government organizations, veterinary customers, and academia.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in microbiology and/or immunology, with experience in laboratory techniques and a keen interest in the food animal production sector. You will be expected to work collaboratively with our team to deliver innovative solutions to complex problems, and to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety in our laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Culture of different organisms on specialist media from a wide range of biological samples
- Phenotypic tests including serological identification and/or typing, antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Assistance with the collection of samples from farm animal premises, feed mills, abattoirs, and hatcheries
- Production and standardisation of reagents for surveillance projects and international trade assays
Requirements
- A Levels or equivalent in science-related subjects
- Basic microbiology and/or immunology knowledge
- Experience in the use of computer software, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to organise own work and time
