About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Spiritual Care Specialist to join our Chaplaincy Team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will provide spiritual care and support to patients, relatives, visitors, and staff across all Trust sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive, spiritual, pastoral, and religious care to patients, relatives, visitors, and staff, irrespective of faith or belief.
  • Work as part of an ecumenical, multi-faith Chaplaincy team, identifying, assessing, and appropriately responding to pastoral, spiritual, emotional, cultural, and/or religious needs of patients, their families, carers, and staff.
  • Be open to and supportive of the spiritual and ethical concerns of staff arising from their work.
  • Adhere to all relevant service and professional standards, including NHS England NHS Chaplaincy Guidelines and the UKBHC Standards for Healthcare Chaplaincy Services.

Requirements

  • Accredited training/qualification in theology, pastoral care, or other relevant discipline.
  • Accreditation/licensing with authority to practice as a religious leader/representative and/or pastoral worker, or relevant ability to be endorsed by your faith or belief community.
  • Previous pastoral experience and ability to provide high-quality pastoral and spiritual care to patients of any religion or belief.
