We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to join our Data Centre Operations team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre facilities, ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment is functioning at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to the Engineering team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and operate electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Training and Development: Design and deliver site-specific training exercises for the Engineering team, covering topics such as standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, and chillers.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in our data centre sites, ensuring that all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and AWS staff.
- Project Management: Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities, perform root cause analysis of equipment failures, and create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Escalation Point: Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data centre region, working overtime as needed to support site stability.
- Troubleshooting and Reporting: Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
- Certifications: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, BS7671 18th Edition, and High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) experience.
Several years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Centre facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities, fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage (copper/fibre) cabling.
