Job Title: Specialist Study Skills and Strategy Support Tutor

Beacon Support Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Study Skills and Strategy Support Tutor to work with Higher Education students with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). As a Specialist Tutor, you will provide one-to-one support to students, helping them develop learning strategies that will improve their study skills and enable them to become independent learners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with students to develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and provide support to help them achieve their academic goals.
  • Act as a facilitator to help students develop learning strategies that will improve their study skills and enable them to become independent learners.
  • Provide support to students with ASC, addressing the issues they may face in acquiring, recalling, and retaining information in written and spoken language, as well as memory, organisational, attention, and numeracy difficulties.
  • Work with students to identify and build on their learning strengths, and help them develop strategies to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Collaborate with other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and joined-up approach to supporting students with ASC.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a relevant field.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Experience of working with students with ASC on a one-to-one basis, preferably in a Higher Education setting.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and related AT study skills strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify different strategies that enable students to build on their learning strengths.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Accurate spelling and grammar skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to maintain a confidential and professional working relationship.
