Job Overview:
A Senior Quantity Surveyor is required to lead the commercial management of a major civil engineering project for a Tier 1 contractor. The successful candidate will have experience in managing large-scale construction programmes and be familiar with NEC3 forms of contracts.

About the Project:
The project involves the construction of 32.5km of tunnel to house electricity transmission cables, replacing three existing circuits. The contractor is seeking a senior quantity surveyor who can provide commercial leadership and support junior staff while having hands-on control over their section of works.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To effectively communicate with the commercial manager daily and provide regular updates on project progress.
  • To prepare internal commercial reporting, including internal reports, commercial progress, and financial reconciliation.
  • To maintain accurate records of project data and costs.
  • To assist procurement in preparing and issuing subcontract documentation, enquiries, and negotiations.
  • To provide training and support to junior commercial staff and operational staff.
  • To manage cost control and mitigation, ensuring that all costs are accurately recorded and reported.
  • To draft and negotiate complex subcontract arrangements, including professional services and terms of engagement.

Requirements:
  • At least one year of experience as a senior quantity surveyor in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with NEC3 forms of contracts and experience in managing large-scale construction programmes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including presentations and negotiation.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

Qualifications:
  • HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related field is preferred, but not essential.
  • A comprehensive level of commercial experience, preferably with a main contractor on a major heavy civils project.
  • Financially astute and able to interpret financial data.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position is £60k-£65k per annum, plus a car allowance of £7,500. In addition to a competitive salary, the company offers a range of benefits, including pension scheme, health insurance, and opportunities for career development.
