The Role:

We are seeking an experienced senior full stack engineer who wants to make an impact and help revolutionise the student housing and shared utility experience. Reporting directly to our Head of Engineering, you will be a key collaborator in architectural decisions and will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects.

We leverage AWS and GCP, so hands-on experience building complex systems using cloud services would be an advantage, as would DevOps and CI/CD experience. Our core tech stack currently consists of PHP, Laravel, Vue.js, TypeScript, and Nuxt. Our talented team love working within the Laravel/Vue ecosystem, but we are also open to exploring and using the best tool for the job, striking a balance between developer experience, complexity, and performance.

You will have great communication skills, be hands-on, and used to working in a high-performing Agile Scrum team that will advocate best practices and lead by example. We are serious about our work, but we don't take ourselves too seriously, so bring your sense of humour along for the ride too.

As a leading member of the web engineering team, you will need to be naturally inquisitive, product-focused, and enjoy solving real user problems. Be hands-on in writing clean, testable code, and also be willing to spend time coaching and mentoring junior team members. Guide best practices collaboratively and have the ambition to take ownership of complex tasks and projects, whether working solo or leading the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain web applications using PHP, JavaScript, and other web technologies.
  • Collaborate with our engineering team to design and build high-quality, responsive web applications.
  • Integrate web applications with third-party APIs and services.
  • Write clean, testable, and well-documented code that is easy to understand and maintain.
  • Troubleshoot and debug web applications when needed.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers to help them achieve their career goals.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in web development.

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience building awesome software using PHP and JavaScript.
  • You are a wizard with our backend tech PHP 8+ and Laravel 10.
  • You love to build beautiful and clean UI using Vue 3, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
  • A master at working with APIs and integrating third-party services.
  • You are an experienced leader and enjoy mentoring software engineers.
  • Demonstrable experience with Test Driven Development.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum and the associated ceremonies.
  • A passion for doing things the right way.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience building analytics products using big data.
  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other cloud hosting services.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD setups.
