Vessel Operations Leadership Role

This position is responsible for assisting in the direction of the day-to-day operations of the Authority\'s fleet, assuming the responsibilities of the Port Captain in their absence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement vessel operational policies, procedures, and standards in accordance with International Safety Management (ISM) and Quality Management System (QMS) regulations.
  2. Conduct inspections of vessels to ensure compliance with USCG requirements and standards for safety and cleanliness, and implement corrective measures as needed.
  3. Monitor vessel personnel\' performance to detect deviations from SSA policies and identify opportunities for improvement, preparing directives to address such issues.
  4. Review vessel logs and reports to ensure compliance with SSA policies, schedules, and reporting requirements, and prepare operational reports as needed.
  5. Analyze reports of vessel conditions, emergencies, accidents, weather, and other factors influencing vessel operations to inform decision-making.
  6. Participate in investigations into accidents, incidents, and customer complaints related to vessel operations, determining responsibility and initiating corrective actions.
  7. Support the training of vessel personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimize vessel performance.
  8. Coordinate vessel activities and personnel to achieve USCG inspection requirements and optimize vessel use, assisting in the preparation of vessel schedules.
  9. Represent SSA in communications and meetings with the United States Coast Guard and other federal, state, and local governmental authorities regarding vessel operations.
  10. Review and analyze vessel expenditures, financial, and operation reports to identify opportunities for increasing operating efficiencies, lowering costs, and improving service.
  11. Assist in the preparation, administration, and monitoring of the vessel operation budget.
  12. Supervise and direct all vessel personnel, maintaining confidentiality and exercising judgment and initiative in decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Possesses a U.S. Coast Guard license as Master of Inland Steam or Motor Vessels of 1600 gross tons.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Has served as Master on board vessels with USCG certified capacities of at least 1600 GRT and 150 passengers and/or high-speed craft with high-speed code experience for a minimum of three years.
  2. Familiarity with the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 and the regulations promulgated thereunder.
