Intellectual Property Manager for Strategic Partnerships

The NIHR Intellectual Property Unit is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technology Transfer Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic network of professionals and contribute to the development of impactful outcomes in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the Head of IP and Commercial and other members of the IP Unit to plan and deliver the NIHR's IP policy, ensuring effective management of intellectual property and maximising returns on investment.
- Support NIHR staff members by providing expert advice and guidance on IP-related matters through regular Open Sessions, helping them navigate complex issues and make informed decisions.
- Manage a portfolio of commercialisation cases on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), focusing on delivering patient benefit and mitigating state aid while negotiating return models and preparing briefing notes for DHSC.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of robust contractual terms for funding health research, ensuring alignment with the NIHR's goals and objectives.
- Provide training and support to NIHR programme managers and staff at NIHR-funded organisations on intellectual property management best practices.
- Utilise established project management tools to manage allocated activities efficiently and effectively.
- Identify and implement improvements to the IP Unit's processes and systems, driving continuous improvement and excellence.
- A good degree in a relevant subject or comparable professional experience, with a strong understanding of life science research and its applications.
- Detailed knowledge of best practice in intellectual property management, including expertise in public and private sectors.
- Understanding of organisational goals and how to balance competing priorities when negotiating with various stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the regulatory framework for intellectual property management and ability to obtain appropriate legal advice when needed.
- Inquisitive and analytical self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, able to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and negotiate complex deals.
- Ability to write clear and concise documents for senior decision-makers and analyse complex issues impacting the wider NIHR system.
- Effective project management skills, with meticulous record-keeping and excellent organisational abilities.
This role offers a competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
