We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Service Designer to join our team in the Social Security Programme Division. As a Senior Service Designer, you will play a key role in the end-to-end journey of a service, helping users complete their goals and government deliver policy intent.

You will work with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts, championing the involvement of citizens, service users, and stakeholders throughout the design process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design and implementation of services, strategies, and policies to ensure business requirements and user needs are being met.
  • Advocating for inclusive, collaborative, user-centred service design practices and embedding them into service design and delivery.
  • Advising on which service design tools and methods to use.
  • Working with user researchers to understand and meet the needs of users across a variety of channels.
  • Championing design for users for whom assisted digital and/or accessibility technologies are required to access a service.
  • Facilitating co-design with design teams, citizens, service users, and other stakeholders.
  • Prototyping and validating proposed design solutions using a variety of prototyping tools.
  • Identifying and understanding constraints, communicating these, and working within them (including challenging the validity of constraints where appropriate while ensuring standards are being met).
  • Making and guiding on design decisions and communicating how decisions have been reached.

Additional duties of this role include participating in and/or supporting programme and project assurance activities, contributing to the DDaT community, and line managing the Social Security Directorate service design team.

Essential digital data and technology knowledge includes experience in a digital service design setting, designing and delivering a wide range of service design activities, and ability to choose and apply appropriate user-centred design methods.

Essential competencies required include people management, communications and engagement, improving performance, and analysis and use of evidence.
