An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Senior Engineering Manager within Thales Optronics and Missile Electronics (OME). The successful candidate will initially serve as a Senior Engineering Manager in the Sea division.

This position will be part of one of the largest development and production initiatives within OME. You will be a key member of the leadership team for a substantial delivery group focused on specific development and support projects within the Sea division.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with the overall Programme Director, Senior Programme Managers, and the Head of Engineering Delivery to guide the design and development processes through to qualification and acceptance for development and production projects within OME and the Sea division.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and forming high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering teams to create engineering solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Developing strategies to ensure the delivery of all engineering aspects of the programme while adhering to business governance.
  • Collaborating with the Programme Manager to outline the organization and work breakdown necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Establishing project-specific processes, practices, and tools to ensure successful delivery.
  • Defining the engineering team's work packages, including resource requirements, budget allocations, risks, assumptions, and timelines.
  • Planning and prioritizing activities to deliver solutions in accordance with contract schedules, costs, and quality standards.
  • Managing the daily activities of the engineering team, proactively addressing issues, opportunities, and risks.
  • Overseeing and reporting on engineering efficiency for the project.
  • Identifying opportunities for re-use across the project.
  • Aligning the project-defined solution with the Product Roadmap.
  • Acting as the People Manager for the engineering team on the project and providing feedback for performance reviews with functional discipline leads.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in engineering and engineering management on large-scale programmes, with proven experience in successfully defining and leading multi-disciplinary engineering projects. They will be highly customer-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent objectives. Familiarity with naval products would be advantageous for this role.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities, aligned with the Thales Leadership Behavioural Model:

  • Agility in ensuring that business objectives remain the focal point.
  • Ability to navigate multiple complexities to achieve business goals.
  • Engagement with stakeholders to attain a shared objective.
  • Creation of competitive advantages through risk management, opportunity identification, and fostering continuous improvement.
  • Support for the development of others to ensure ongoing improvement for our customers.

This role will work closely with the Programme Manager and the Project Design Authority (PDA) for specific projects and will report to the Head of Engineering Delivery.
