About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Assistant to join our team at a vibrant primary school in Newham. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring that pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs have access to mainstream class teaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to pupils with SEMH needs, promoting their emotional well-being and academic success.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, other support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support plans.
  • Assist pupils in mainstream classes, helping them to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school policies and procedures related to SEMH support.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on pupil progress and support provided.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of SEMH needs and the impact on pupils' learning and well-being.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Experience of working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
