Job Overview

Exact Sciences Innovation is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Engineer to join our team. As a Bioinformatics Engineer, you will be responsible for the monitoring, collection, and analysis of data produced by assays, software applications, production, and development pipelines supporting on-market and under-development products by Exact Sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of analytical pipelines, software, web applications, and data visualizations to support the development of novel assays, improvement of assays under development, and hypothesis testing requested by the Product Development and Computational Biology team.
  • Collect and document product and software requirements and findings from analyses and code developed and executed by yourself and others.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries against MSSQL databases.
  • Assist with the development of Python programs of medium to high complexity.
  • Perform accurate, complete, and timely collection, validation, and tracking of research, commercial, and manufacturing data.
  • Assist with the construction of datasets and visualizations for reporting.
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of programs and procedures.
  • Assist with the integration of software components into pipelines and web applications.
  • Develop sufficient understanding and utilization of research, commercial, and manufacturing data management systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide functional expertise to development, study, and process teams.
  • Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality.
  • Ability to deliver quality results in a timely manner.

  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science, life sciences, computer science, or field related to the essential duties.
  • 1+ years of experience with basic scripting or web development with Python or R.
  • 1+ years of experience with SQL and MSSQL databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of programming languages, tools, and databases to compile and present accurate datasets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorisation to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of recent experience with statistical programming using SAS.
  • 2+ years of recent experience writing Python/R.
  • Experience with cloud computing software; including AWS, Azure.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Basic skill in Linux command line.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology and bioinformatics tools.
  • Familiarity with web development.
