About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gastroenterology Specialist to join our team at University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide appropriate care and diagnostic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses.
  • Be involved in the development of services for patients with gastroenterological problems.
  • Be involved in teaching and research as appropriate.

About the Department

The department consists of 2 inpatient wards with a total of 45 male and female beds, which is situated in a brand new PFI build. The ward specialises in patients with hepatology and general gastroenterology, including IBD and acute GI haemorrhage.

The department is closely allied to Keele University Medical School with a full programme of ward-based teaching, seminars, and lectures during the medical academic year.

About the Trust

University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals, we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond.

The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales.

We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and the management of liver conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support
  • Full GMC
  • MRCP Part 1 & 2 cleared
  • Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years Senior House Officer/CMT or clear demonstration of equivalent experience
  • Evidence of safe, sound clinical practices
  • 1-year in a substantive post within the UK or clear demonstration of equivalent experience elsewhere
  • Experience of teaching medical students
  • Audit and Research in the specialty
  • Evidence of continuing professional updating

Skills:

  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively and cope under pressure
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff, and other health professionals
  • Proficient and efficient handling of medical problems
  • Evidence of safe sound practical procedures
