Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Orthoptist to lead our Orthoptic services in the Ophthalmology department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of our Orthoptic services, working closely with our AHP team to ensure the highest quality care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop the Orthoptic services, ensuring they meet the needs of our patients and align with the overall objectives of the department.
  • Line manage a team of Allied Health Professionals, including orthoptists and optometrists, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure they are equipped to deliver high-quality care.
  • Provide an Orthoptic service as an autonomous practitioner, assessing, diagnosing, planning, and supervising treatment for patients with orthoptic conditions.
  • Take part in extended roles within ophthalmology, using the Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) programme to develop your skills and expertise.
  • Represent the Head Orthoptist at meetings and lead Orthoptic staff meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team.
