About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Breakdown Vehicle Technician to join our team at First Bus Engineering. As a key member of our mechanical/engineering team, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our bus fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries, utilizing your expertise to diagnose and repair faults.
  • Diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs and parts replacement, working efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement solutions for vehicle defects and maintenance needs.
  • Participate in vehicle road testing to identify specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of PCV mechanical repair skills, with a focus on electrics and hydraulic systems.
Requirements
  • Minimum level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent (e.g., City & Guilds level I & 2).
  • Full Cat B license and willingness to obtain PCV license.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, gearboxes, drive trains, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, and basic auto electrics.
  • Experience with workshop equipment, including brake rolling road testers, tracking gauges, hydraulic vehicle lifts, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
