Clinical Psychologist

This is an exciting new post to support the training and development of trainees and clinicians within Psychology in Healthcare at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust. We have strong working relationships with local clinical psychology training courses and regularly supervise trainees. There is scope to offer supervision and training and to develop a broader offer to develop psychologically informed care in the hospital.
- Develop and lead on the identification and development of innovative training opportunities.
- Provide supervision of supervision to clinical psychologists, trainee clinical psychologists and other psychological professionals.
- Liaise with training courses in relation to placement type and capacity.
You will be expected to quickly build robust working relationships across the department and with the local clinical psychology training courses, to strengthen and grow our training offer. You will need to have experience of teaching and supervising and you will need to have a strong awareness of both national health service and academic requirements for the psychological professions.
Job responsibilities- Co-ordinate training placements for clinical psychology trainees and other psychological professions.
- Lead on the development of income generating training courses as part of the Newcastle Clinical Skills Academy.
- Develop a programme of staff training to scaffold the supervision of psychological professionals.
- Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- HCPC Registration.
- Post-graduate training relevant speciality e.g. neuropsychology, CBT, CAT, Fellowship of HEA.
- Experience of delivering specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients using a range of theories and models of practice across the full range of care settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
- Skills in the teaching of complex methods of psychology assessment, intervention and management.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to empathise and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues.
