Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Support and Development Engineer to join our Transformation Unit team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our hospital's IT infrastructure.

Your primary responsibility will be to ensure reliable and secure network operations, including troubleshooting network issues, managing servers, and safeguarding patient data through robust security protocols.

You will also be responsible for supporting the integration of new technologies and maintaining the efficiency of clinical and administrative systems, directly impacting patient care.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have expert working knowledge of EMIS and other Clinical Information Systems, as well as sound experience of staff supervision/line management.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent experience, with recent interest in your own personal development.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and presentation skills are essential for this position.

You will also need to be able to design and develop highly complex system specifications, capable of developing strategies and policies in line with legislative changes.

As a network engineer, you will be responsible for leading reviews and advising on systems faults and business process issues, providing root cause analysis and recommendations for improvement.

You will work closely with the Clinical Systems Manager to implement strategies and plans to promote and develop good practices within the organisation for the management and development of Trust systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and optimising the hospital's network and communication systems
  • Troubleshooting network and telecom issues, configuring and managing routers, switches, and servers
  • Ensuring secure and reliable data transmission, supporting VoIP and telecommunication systems
  • Monitoring network performance, implementing upgrades, and ensuring compliance with NHS data security standards
  • Developing, managing, and coordinating robust system upgrade programmes within the organisation
Requirements
  • Expert working knowledge of EMIS and other Clinical Information Systems
  • Sound experience of staff supervision/line management
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Recent interest in own personal development
  • PRINCE2/Agile Project Management Qualification

Applicants should have excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to design and develop highly complex system specifications.

Awareness of the current NHS IM&T and modernisation agenda is essential, as is knowledge of Data Protection, Freedom of Information, and other legislation which impacts on information security.

Candidates should also have knowledge of Information Security and Governance standards, risk appraisal, and management of risk.
