About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Salaried General Practitioner to join our team at Balmore Park GP Surgery. As a key member of our primary care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, and contributing to the development of our practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake a variety of duties, including consultation, visiting patients at home, checking and signing prescriptions, and dealing with workflow, queries, paperwork, and correspondence.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether patient-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organization.
  • Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Provide counseling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous IT-based consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collect and collate data for audit purposes.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
  • Be aware of the Practice's Safeguarding Policy and willingness to refer to the Safeguarding lead where appropriate.

Other Responsibilities

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, prescribing, safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • Willingness to share duties arising from the Practice's extended hours commitments.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organization.
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarizing of patient records and read-coding patient data.
  • Attending meetings, training, and other events organized by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Confidentiality and Data Security

  • In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.
  • In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff, and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organization. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers, or the business of the practice may only be transmitted or divulged to authorized persons and organizations in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
  • Willingness to inform the Practice's Caldicott Guardian and Practice Manager of any suspected data breach.

Health and Safety

The post-holder may be asked to implement and lead on a range of clinical and managerial issues, including their own and others' health and safety. Issues may include infection control as defined in the practice health and safety policy, the practice health and safety manual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures.
