Lead Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Engineer to join our team at MBN Solutions. As a key member of our data consultancy, you will play a crucial role in shaping and defining our data engineering capabilities for clients.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in data modelling, SQL, and Python, with a strong focus on creating interactive visualisations and optimising repeatable processes. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and clients to prioritise improvements to business intelligence systems, monitor data update processes, and refine processes to ensure efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, own, and operate business intelligence systems for multiple clients
  • Work with internal stakeholders and clients to prioritise improvements to these systems
  • Monitor all data update processes and outputs to ensure quality and uptime
  • Refine and improve processes to make them efficient and repeatable
  • Document all processes in a way accessible to non-technical users
  • Apply strong data governance principles to all aspects of the solutions

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in data modelling
  • Expertise in SQL, including concepts like window functions and CTEs
  • Strong Python skills, specifically getting data from APIs, using DataFrames, and interacting with SQL databases
  • Ability to create interactive visualisations in tools like PowerBI
  • Driving licence and transport to visit client sites around Scotland (occasionally)

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Apps
  • Experience of cloud providers such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
  • Domain experience in construction, renewables, or engineering
  • Experience of administering databases
  • Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience of Git
  • Experience mentoring junior members of staff
