Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in conceptual design work for master planning, urban design, and architecture projects.
  • Develop visions for place making, creating new communities, and the development of new cities.
  • Work across a variety of sectors, including mixed-use, commercial, residential, hospitality, retail, and education, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
  • Illustrate and present design solutions effectively through freehand sketching and computer-aided design to convey intended vision to clients.
  • Lead the submission of design work and related planning documentation, including design and access statements and design guidelines.
  • Lead thought leadership initiatives and research, and share findings within the firm and externally with clients, potential clients, and consultants.
  • Collaborate with design teams, clients, consultants, community stakeholders, and other parties to meet overall project objectives.
  • Manage presentations and production of planning and urban design projects.
  • Liaise with clients, government agencies, and project stakeholders, requiring excellent communication and people management skills.
  • Work closely with directors and project teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality master planning and architecture projects within budget.

Requirements

  • Degree in urban design or planning is essential, and a master's degree in urban design or equivalent is preferred.
  • LEED qualification is advantageous.
  • 10+ years' experience as an Urban Designer.
  • Thorough understanding of UK and international planning standards and requirements.
  • Relevant experience as an Urban Designer with a proven background in creative collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, from concept through later stages.
  • Knowledge and passion for working on a variety of urban design and masterplanning projects across multiple sectors.
  • High-level verbal, written, and graphic communication skills, including freehand sketching and a variety of computer-aided mediums.
  • Experience in parametric design application to master planning projects is essential.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, good self-organisation, and strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and dedication to their work and the work of their team.
  • GIS mapping and database skills are preferred.
