We are seeking a skilled Clinical Lead Physiotherapist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in Surrey Downs. As a key member of our Community Therapy services, you will be responsible for driving forward high-quality patient care and developing innovative services to meet the needs of our local population.
Main Responsibilities of the Job
- Lead the physiotherapy team in the assessment and management of patients with complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning skills to create targeted treatment plans.
- Formulate and deliver individual or group physiotherapy treatment programmes in line with best practice guidelines.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to ensure effective delivery of therapy services, liaising with local health and social care professionals to provide equitable services.
- Evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programmes as required, advising and supporting junior colleagues.
- Supervise and teach less experienced Physiotherapy staff, Rehabilitation Assistants, and students within this speciality.
- Contribute to audit, implementation of best practice guidelines, and participate in in-service training to maintain professional registration and quality of practice.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessments of patients with complex presentations, using advanced clinical reasoning skills to create targeted treatment plans.
- Formulate and deliver individual or group physiotherapy treatment programmes in line with best practice guidelines.
- Coordinate and ensure effective delivery of therapy services, liaising with colleagues across other PCNs/Adult social care teams to provide equitable services.
- Evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programmes as required, advising and supporting more junior colleagues.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to work toward cross-disciplinary competencies.
- Have an awareness of local community services and be able to refer to these appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Understand and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and within the service, advising more junior staff and seeking guidance from Band 7s/Clinical Lead as required.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) and incorporate it into working practice as necessary.
- Actively participate in Performance Development Plan and review process.
- Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attending and delivering at training sessions.
- Train, supervise, and performance manage more junior staff and students, including formal appraisals.
- Be responsible for teaching students, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation assistants on physiotherapeutic skills.
- Undertake organisational and local audit, undertaking research projects as appropriate.
- Maintain and develop evidence-based practice in Intermediate Care/Frailty.
Organisational Responsibilities
- Be responsible for the safe use of equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, adhering to departmental policies and guidelines to ensure safe use by the team.
- Share responsibility for departmental tidiness, maintenance, and administration.
- Utilise IT systems to improve the efficiency of the service.
- Supervise and co-ordinate junior staff and rehab assistants, ensuring their practice as well as your own meets the required professional standards.
General Responsibilities
- Attend all statutory and mandatory training in line with Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust Policy.
- Maintain complete confidentiality of all patient and staff information known or acquired during the course of work, adhering to Information Governance standards at all times.
- Adhere to all trust policies and procedures of Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust.
- Undertake any duties or responsibilities commensurate with the grade as requested by Clinical Lead or Specialist Services Manager.

Qualifications
- Essential criteria:
- Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy.
- Registered with the Health Care Professions Council.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the CSP.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post-qualification experience with a range of client groups.
- Appreciation of constraints to working in the community.
- Experience of MDT working.
- Experience of clinical teaching within the MDT.
- Ability to demonstrate on-going CPD and the use of evidence-based practice.
Desirable criteria
- Post-qualification experience working in the community.
- Experience in using an electronic notes recording system (i.e., EMIS and Systm1).
- Proficient with basic Excel and Word.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Experienced manual handling skills.
- Physical ability to carry out therapy assessment and intervention.
