Job Summary

The NHS is seeking a highly skilled Medical Equipment Specialist to join our team of dedicated professionals. As an Equipment Pool Service Technician, you will be responsible for the safe storage, cleaning, checking, and distribution of medical equipment, as well as the management of medical gas cylinders.

About Us

The Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Service is responsible for the management of medical equipment throughout the NHS. Our team provides an equipment library service, a medical gas management service, and direct support for resuscitation services. We are committed to delivering a high-quality service and working closely with clinical staff and patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the safe storage and handling of medical equipment, including cleaning, checking, and distributing equipment associated with the Equipment Pool service.
  • Manage medical gas cylinders, including ordering, storing, and delivering to end users.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and service histories using our computerised job management system.
  • Support clinical areas by providing stocks of pharmaceuticals and other clinical equipment for use in resuscitation.
  • Monitor stock levels and arrange orders as necessary to maintain a continuous service.
Requirements
  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Technical training covering minor repairs for various types of medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment types, applications, and accessories.
  • Practical experience working with gas cylinders.
  • Flexible approach to new tasks and willingness to work within departmental procedures and quality manual documents.
Working Environment

This role requires constant interaction with clinical staff and patients, both on the telephone and face-to-face. You must be able to deal compassionately with patients and their carers, advising them on technical aspects of equipment provided. The post holder will also participate in relevant training and development of new staff within Clinical Engineering.

The estimated salary for this position is £28,000-£35,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including pension scheme, life assurance, and generous annual leave entitlement.
