Norfolk State University's Department of Facilities Management seeks a highly skilled Electrician Technician II to join their team. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the university's campus environment, ensuring it remains conducive to working and learning.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of all building and exterior electrical repairs, as well as equipment and machinery repairs. This includes inspecting and testing electrical lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits and equipment, isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment, and using appropriate electrical testing meters to test circuits and verify power.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections and tests on electrical systems to identify potential issues
  • Assist in repairing and replacing faulty electrical components, including switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances
  • Ensure all work performed meets required safety codes and regulations
  • Effectively problem-solve and troubleshoot electrical issues
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with demonstrated knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components. The ability to receive Journeyman's Electrician certification within 1 year of employment is also required.
