About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Customer Services Assistant at Rayleigh Library. This is a part-time position working 28 hours per week, including every Saturday.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, supporting with book circulation and issuing, and signposting customers to different services. They will also be required to travel throughout the local area, working at various libraries including Hockley, Rochford, Benfleet, and Wickford.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service, responding to customer queries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Support with book circulation and issuing, ensuring that customers have access to the resources they need.
  • Signpost customers to different services, including library services, Council services, and partner organizations.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to achieve service goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of promotional activities, generating income for the library and promoting its services.
  • Assist customers with using the library catalogue and learning to use the full library offer.
  • Ensure seamless stock circulation and management, including sorting, shelving, tidying, and handling reservations, fines, and membership activities.
  • Contribute to the analysis of data, identifying trends and areas for improvement to enhance the customer experience.
  • Support with unlocking and locking up the library, and act as a trusted keyholder.
Requirements
  • Possession of a driving licence (desirable)
  • Ability to use IT systems, or willingness to learn
  • Customer service experience in any area
  • Confidence in speaking to customers and signposting them to library services and other Council services
  • Enthusiasm and ideas for promoting the library and its services
  • Ability to work as part of a team to achieve service goals and objectives
