Research Scientist Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our team at Durham University. The successful candidate will be working on a collaborative project with Fundecitrus, a Brazilian association, to develop novel protein-based strategies for the control of the Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri.

About the Project

The Asian citrus psyllid is a key vector of the phloem-limited bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), which causes Huanglongbing, the most serious and currently incurable disease of citrus worldwide. The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research in Nicotiana benthamiana and in Pichia pastoris by bench-top fermentation.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in a collaborative project with Fundecitrus
  • Develop novel protein-based strategies for the control of the Asian citrus psyllid
  • Contribute to the day-to-day management of the laboratory
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a strong background in biochemistry and a proven track record of research experience. The post is fixed term for 6 months with a possibility for further extension, and the successful candidate will be working with Professor Elaine Fitches.
