Data Center Technical Operations Specialist

Cpl Life Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technical Operations Specialist to join our team in the Greater London Area. As a key member of our Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team, you will play a critical role in maintaining the availability and reliability of our critical infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and build of new data halls and data centers, ensuring compliance with established practices and procedures.
- Produce detailed reports and documentation on all aspects of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
- Manage on-site sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed meets established standards and procedures.
- Develop and maintain relationships with third-party colocation providers and their staff.
- Review vendor Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) and Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to ensure adherence to safety practices.
- Operate and manage routine and emergency services on critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve energy efficiency in the data center.
- Project manage operational aspects of the data center, including asset and inventory management.
- Participate in recruiting efforts and contribute to the development of the DCEO Team.
- Work 12-hour rotating day/night shifts and be flexible to travel between sites.
Requirements:
- City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 4+ years of work experience in a critical operations environment.
- Full UK driving license.
- Good understanding of data center critical infrastructure, including diesel generators, chillers, cooling towers, CHW systems, air handling units, UPS, HV/LV electrical distribution systems, fire detection and suppression systems.
- Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS7671 18th Edition.
- High/Low Voltage Authorized Person (AP) experience.
- 6+ years of data center engineering/operations experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout, as well as low-voltage (copper/fiber) cabling.
